Could Voisey Transform Artist Discovery?
Voisey is a music social media app that is taking the world of music creation and collaboration by storm. The app allows artists to unite and collaborate on professional-quality songs from afar, using just their mobile phones. Voisey is allowing artists from 22 countries to showcase their skills and presenting some great new opportunities for undiscovered talent.
How It Works
On Voisey, producers around the world can upload their original music loops and make them available to other artists for collaboration. Artists can take the tracks to the next level by recording and layering vocals over them. They can even harmonise with other users by utilising the app’s split-screen option.
Voisey users can access a range of vocal effects and autotuning to refine their sound, maintaining a DIY approach, without the low-fi sacrifice. Like TikTok, Voisey users are given 60 seconds to show their audience what they’ve got.
Why It's Important
The app is not only simplifying and streamlining the processes of music creation and collaboration, and bringing high-quality capabilities to mobile phones across the globe, it’s also presenting brand new opportunities for artist discovery.
Since its soft launch in Norway in December 2018, more than 11 million songs have been created on Voisey and plays within the app have exceeded 200 million.
The team behind the app includes Olly Barnes (Universal Music, Rdio, Space Ape Games), Erlend Hausken (Soundio, Vibble, Opera), Pål Wagtskjold-Myran (Soundio, Vibble) and Dag Langfoss-Håland (Sony Music, Soundio, Vibble).
Voisey is currently partnered with producing/songwriting duo Stargate and London-based independent artist development and distribution company, Platoon, who are known for discovering Billie Eilish. Recently, Platoon discovered prominent Los Angeles Voisey user poutyface (pictured), and flew her to London in 2019 to work on new music.
Last month, it was announced that poutyface had signed a global recording deal with Island Records and a worldwide publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music, with Voisey being credited as the platform that brought her onto their radar.
As Voisey’s numbers grow, the app and its partners are taking advantage of its A&R capabilities. And as the app’s founders promise more notable partnerships to come, we’re keen to see what other gems will be uncovered via this exciting new platform.
After competing on American Idol and being signed then dropped, by Sony, Miami-born, Cuban American singer-songwriter Sammy Arriaga has fast become one of the most interesting musicians of the Web3 world.
