Celebrating A Decade Of 5 Seconds of Summer
Alongside their 10 year anniversary, Australia’s 5 Seconds Of Summer spent last weekend treating their fans to a very special celebration.
On Friday, the four piece shared their nostalgic new single ‘2011’. Alongside the release, they announced their plans for ‘The 5 Seconds Of Summer Show - A 10 Year Celebration’ - an hour long livestream special, that would take place on YouTube the next day.
The documentary-style special included parody commercials and skits from the band - which included an ad for the ‘CLAM’ perfume, inspired by their latest album ‘CALM’, an ad for ‘5Sauce’, and a dramatised call out to Ryan Seacrest, who apparently left the band hanging after inviting them to a BBQ at his home. The livestream also included throwbacks to the YouTube videos that first introduced them to the world, plus new live performances from the band, including a live debut of ‘2011.’
Ahead of the ‘2011’ single release, the band also shared weekly videos in which they discussed each year of their career so far. Over on Twitter, they responded to fans’ questions on the 5SOS 2011 hashtag. The anniversary and single release was also partnered with the release of 10 year anniversary merch, which includes restocks of old items like 2014 tour t-shirts.
The 5SOS anniversary campaign has arrived as a reminder of the importance of well thought out, engaging content, and the importance of celebrating events with your fans.
The ‘2011’ single, merch drop and livestream have been met with fantastic responses from the band’s legion of international fans. With creative footage, some comedic touches and a healthy dose of nostalgia, 5SOS and their team found a way to create a moment around their anniversary - one that fans could engage and reminisce with.
