Another year’s Hottest 100 has come and gone, complete with the standard ‘shoulda been higher’ comments, Warm Tunas predictions and pool parties. This year’s countdown saw a whopping 2.79 million votes submitted, and in the lead up, we had the pleasure of watching artists campaign to get their tunes into the day’s beloved event.

While some rallied for votes with heartfelt reach outs to fans via social media, others offered some interesting incentives in return for listener's votes. We’re breaking down some of the wildest promises made by musicians this year and checking out where they landed in the countdown.

Glass Animals

In the lead up to their win with ‘Heat Waves’ from their latest album ‘Dreamworld’, Glass Animals promised voters that if they took out the #1 spot, each band member would get a tattoo of Australia on their butts. We're still waiting on an update on these inkings, but Glass Animals have vowed to keep their word.

Lime Cordiale

Lime Cordiale went with a slightly less permanent reward – with half the brotherly duo, Ollie Leimbach promising to sport a bowl cut if the band made it to the top 10 and shave his eyebrows if they made the top 5. While they didn’t quite crack the top 10, the band did take out the #26, #25, #20, #16 and #11 spots with their 2020 releases.

G Flip

G Flip got a little more personal with her promise, prompting fans to tag her in their voting posts so she could send them a ‘strange voice memo’. She scored the #7 spot with ‘Hyperfine’. If our calculations are correct, that’s a whole lot of messages to send, but she gets brownie points for the personal touch.

Eves Karydas

Eves Karydas’ promise was arguably the most exhausting of all. For each vote she saw for her track ‘Complicated’, she promised to swim 100 metres of butterfly. The track came in at #22, so we can’t help but wonder if she’s still in the pool.

Aside from the sentimental value and bragging rights, it goes without saying that landing a track in the Hottest 100 is a major feat for any artist. It's a hugely influential event. Last year, more than 3.25 million Australians tuned in to listen to triple j’s annual countdown, so it's not hard to see why artists are willing to go to all kinds of lengths to secure their spot on the day.
