Getting Creative With Merch
Forgive us if we’re a little early, but here at The Habit Weekly we’re feeling festive. Before you know it, we’ll be back enjoying the gift giving season, so we decided to round up some creative pieces of merch that we’re sure plenty of music lovers would love to find under the Christmas tree this year
Triple j
When we said we were missing festivals, we were referring to the thrill of catching live music and sharing experiences with thousands of other punters. What we weren’t referring to was the smell. But triple j’s Hobba and Hing felt differently. In October, the pair sold a festival scented candle, and donated all profits to Support Act. The Festival Candle was made up of four layers, which included the mosh pit, wet shoes and unwashed feet layer, the spilt beer layer, the "nothing to smell here, officer" layer and finally, the final recovery phase layer; which mimicked the scent of cooked ham. We don’t know what went into creating this product, and frankly, we don’t want to know - but kudos to the duo for crafting such a creative concept for a good cause.
Lady Gaga
On the topic of festivals, if there’s one thing that can be hard to come by during festival season, it’s funky gumboots. But worry not, because Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s hit song ‘Rain On Me’ prompted the release of Rather Be Dry Gumboots. Arguably the best thing to happen to gumboots since Paddington Bear, the boots are functional and allow fans to take a slice of the music with them, even in the muddiest of environments.
Lorde
After releasing her single ‘Stoned At The Nail Salon’, Lorde released a range of merch for the singles that included a ‘Stoned At The Nail Salon’ ashtray and zippo lighters. After selling out, the products are available to pre-order again, so it looks like the practical pieces have been a hit with those of Lorde’s fans who enjoy a self-care session at the salon.
Lime Cordiale
With their signature kazoo, Lime Cordiale have found a way to involve fans in the fun with an instrument that is accessible, and overlooked far too often. Not only is it fun - this piece of merch gets major brownie points for encouraging crowd participation and giving fans the opportunity to recreate the buzzin’ kazoo solo from their 2020 track ‘No Plans To Make Plans’.
We’ll never pass up on a chance to grab a nice t-shirt or tote bag, but these merch pieces remind us that there’s always ways to get creative when it comes to branded products.
